Marshall County Forest Association was presented with the Outstanding Project Award by the Mississippi Forestry Association (MFA). The award was presented at the county forestry association luncheon on October 25th in Natchez, as part of Mississippi Forestry Association’s Annual Meeting, the largest gathering of the forestry community in Mississippi.
The Marshall County Forestry Association (CFA) invited the newly reorganized Marshall County Cattleman’s Association to partner with them for the 10th annual field day to demonstrate how wildlife, trees and cattle can be effectively integrated on one farm.
The goal of the joint filed day was to inform both the forestry and cattle landowners how to successfully combine pine plantation and a cattle operation by providing educational sites and demonstrations to give a better understanding of how this can be successfully accomplished. A second goal was to increase the membership in both associations.
On the day of the event a crowd of 140 forestry and cattle landowners attended the field day which took place at the Woods Family Farm near Byhalia on October 14, 2006. In addition to the keynote speech by State Forester Charlie Morgan, the field day consisted of 5 educational tour stops, topped off with a barbeque meal.
Marshall CFA is part of a broad coalition of county forestry associations organized under the umbrella of Mississippi Forestry Association. Mississippi Forestry Association’s vision is to serve as The Voice of Forestry in Mississippi. In 1938 MFA was formed to guard and grow Mississippi’s forests and that is still the mission today. MFA is the only organization that represents every group in the forestry community. MFA leads the efforts in protecting landowner rights, improving the forest products economy and educating the community about the ecological benefits of healthy, renewable forests and of the forest industry. MFA is a private (non government), nonprofit association. To learn more, visit www.msforestry.net.
