Lincoln County Forestry Association (CFA) received the 2007 Outstanding County Forestry Association Award presented in Natchez by the Mississippi Forestry Association. The award was given at the county forestry association luncheon as part of Mississippi Forestry Association’s Annual Meeting, the largest convention of the forestry community in Mississippi.
Led by President Howard Stogner, Lincoln CFA is known for its active membership and assertiveness in promoting good forest management and reforestation. Lincoln County Forestry Association was honored for making impressive strides in the forestry and local communities. The Lincoln CFA has 14 standing committees that meet regularly and work towards educating and supporting sustainable forestry in Mississippi. The Lincoln CFA works toward sustainable forestry which allows Mississippi’s natural resources to be managed so that today’s needs are met without compromising any of Mississippi’s natural resources for future generations. Extensive effort by many CFA volunteers goes in to planning and executing education programs, field days, scholarship fund raising and a multitude of other activities.
This year, the Lincoln CFA produced the Southwest District Tree Farmer of the Year winner, Ms. Frances Nations. Nations is the first female Tree Farmer of the Year in Lincoln County. In 2006, the Lincoln CFA nominated Paul Curtis Smith won the 2006 Outstanding Logger of the Year.
The Lincoln CFA now has over 200 members and is patterned after the Mississippi Forestry Association (MFA). Mississippi Forestry Association’s vision is to serve as The Voice of Forestry in Mississippi. In 1938 MFA was formed to guard and grow Mississippi’s forests and that is still the mission today. MFA is the only organization that represents every group in the forestry community. MFA leads the efforts in protecting landowner rights, improving the forest products economy and educating the community about the ecological benefits of healthy, renewable forests and of the forest industry. MFA is a private (non government), nonprofit association. To learn more, visit www.msforestry.net.
