The Natural Resource Summer Camp provides an opportunity for high school students to explore career paths in natural resources and to learn to be good stewards of the environment. The camp is coordinated by the Mississippi Forestry Commission and Mississippi State University college of Forest Resources. Funding for the 2007 MSU camp and past camps has been provided by Weyerhaeuser Foundation, Georgia-Pacific Foundation, and International Paper Foundation. Other sponsors and donors for the 2007 camp include MFA, Plum Creek Timber Company, Molpus Timberlands Management, Hood Industries, Forestry Suppliers, and U.S. Army corps of engineers. Sara Watts was sponsored by Rankin CFA, Ashley Brown by Jones CFA and Amanda Gaudin by MFA’s Youth Committee. Additionally, Zac Howell of Brooklyn was sponsored by the Forrest/Lamar CFA. Under the direction of Mississippi Forestry Commission Minority Outreach Coordinator Sandra Ford, camps are also held at Alcorn State University and Mississippi Valley State University.
