Each year the Mississippi Forestry Foundation supports Forestry Merit Badge training days for Mississippi Boy Scouts. These training days are held several times throughout the year at various Boy Scout camps across the state. MFF supports this project by acting as a sponsor, and MFA members also volunteer as Forestry Merit Badge instructors. Outstanding Youth Forestry Award Program The MFA Youth Forestry Committee sponsors a rewards program that recognizes youth (11-18 years of age) that are active in forestry. An Outstanding Youth Leader Award is also given out to one youth leader from Mississippi. MFF sponsors this program by providing prize money, jackets and plaques for the winners. Wood Magic Science Fair MFA also supports the Wood Magic Science Fair, an exciting and innovative program conducted by the Mississippi State University Department of Sustainable Bioproducts aimed specifically at elementary school students. The program seeks to educate students about the tremendous importance of wood and wood products to each person individually and to the economy of the United States. Future Farmers of America FFA sponsors a Forestry Judging Contest in Mississippi each year for high school students. MFA supports this contest by supplying MFA members to assist with judging. MFF provides the winning team with the Pine Cone Trophy and also helps fund the winning team's travel expenses to compete in the national competition. 4-H 4-H also sponsors a Forestry Judging Contest for Mississippi high school students. MFF supports this contest by providing the winners with the Acorn Trophy and supplying MFA members to assist with judging. MFF also helps fund the winning team's travel expenses to the national competition. |
